January 17: Luke 3. Level Mountains and Fill Valleys

1. What philosophical or theological questions have always bothered you? Made you curious? Seemed confusing? 2. Where (other than God) do you tend to lean towards? In other words, where do you often put your trust and hope only to find that it dissapoints? (yourself, other people, habits, activity...?) 3. What are some ways we wash ourselves up first and wrongly put obedience before reliance?  4. This seems like a simple, clique', "skip that"-type of question, but it is everything...  How can the 'Good News' actually be good news to you?  How can it bring you rest, joy, peace, and life? I hope you know that the good news is not deficient in its own power, but are we making for straight roads for the King or do we ask the Creator of the Universe--King Jesus to take some zig-zag back alley into our lives? 5. Mark 5:24b-34 Community Group Questions What’s a one-word label you’d love to have? When people look at you they say, “That person is ___________? Talk about a time when a label affected the way you see yourself. (positive or negative) Why do you think labels matter so much to us? The woman who met Jesus was marked as “unclean”. In what ways did her label affect how her community saw her? How do you think she saw herself? Think about the things you say to people in a given day—what if they took to heart every off-handed word or subtle glare? Can you think of a time where something simple and off-handed affected you in a significant way? If God were labeling you right now, what do you think He would say about you? How would you treat others differently if you saw them the way God sees them? Share a time where your perspective changed towards a person and you saw them more as a Child of the King as opposed to your preconceived notion.

Why or why not? Can you think of times where you wished you had followed James’ proverb? “Vision Leaks”, is a common axiom to describe the task of leadership. The ideas is that people so often forget what is important that you have to constantly remind them. The bucket just keeps leaking so we need to constantly fill up other people’s buckets with a God-sized Vision for His world.   OR the image James uses, It’s like looking in a mirror and im
